TWO SHORT FILM SCREENINGS AT THE
ROBERT BURNS CENTRE (press release 16/11/04)
“Village in a Box”, an award winning short film
shot predominantly in Creetown, gets its first Dumfries and
Galloway screening at the
Robert Burns Centre, Dumfries.
The documentary film by local artist and first time screenwriter
Joe Scherrer examines a Scottish artist’s motives in
keeping an unusual collection of World War 2 French identity
cards in a box for 25 years without the need or desire to
know more about the lives of the 52 people or what became
of them. Prior to creating a piece of art with them, he decides
to undertake a journey to France to meet some of the survivors
of the cards.
The film was made in collaboration with Scottish Screen
and Edinburgh College of Art Film School. Following an entry
into a competition, Joe Scherrer was chosen to produce a
twenty-minute digital documentary on the theme of Journeys.
The
short film will be screened at the
Robert Burns Centre on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 November
at 6pm prior to the feature film Amarcord.
The second short film “Dansette”, filmed purely
on location at Colvend Public Hall, received its premiere
at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August 2004
and will also receive its first local screening at the
Robert Burns Centre.
The film was written and directed by first time short filmmaker,
Rosie Toner, and is a strange tale of social isolation, peer
pressure and being in the Brownies.
It will be screened at the
Robert Burns Centre from Thursday 25 November – Saturday
27 November prior to the feature film Ae Fond Kiss.
