SHORT FILM MADE IN DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY NOMINATED FOR A SCOTTISH BAFTA (press release 01/11/04)

Six Hours of Daylight, a short film made entirely on location in Dumfries and Galloway, has been nominated for a Scottish BAFTA for 'Best New Work', a great achievement for first-time writer/director Joseph Briffa.

The short film was set entirely in Galloway Forest Park and premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August this year. It now awaits the Scottish BAFTA awards ceremony taking place on 14 November 2004 in Glasgow. These awards celebrate and promote diverse Scottish talent and achievement in film, television, interactive media and new writing.

Mandy Goldie, locations assistant for South West Scotland Screen Commission said:

Six Hours of Daylight crew"We're delighted for Joseph and all the team who worked on Six Hours of Daylight as we know how much effort went into shooting the film. We're really pleased that the film has been recognised as a showcase for new talent”.

The film is about two forestry workers, and the isolation and disorientation they suffer during their shifts. It was filmed in Galloway Forest Park over three nights, with technical assistance provided by Forestry Commission Scotland.

Sandy White, Recreation Manager for Galloway Forest District said,

“We were delighted to help out by providing the ideal forest location for this film. Galloway Forest Park already provides a vital backdrop to the local tourist based economy and this is another example of how the national forest can deliver cultural and social benefits.

Six Hours of Daylight location"The Forest Park offers a wide range of potential filming locations from deep forest to wild mountainous scenery, so watch this space – you may see more of Galloway on the big screen in the future!”

It is planned to screen ‘Six Hours of Daylight’ at the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre in the near future.
