and Bridges > Kirkcudbright Estuary, Harbour & Bridge
Kirkcudbright has a busy, active harbour and is situated
on the estuary of the River Dee. It is a working harbour,
with its own fish packing business. When the fleet is in,
the boats moor two deep at the harbour quay but at low
tide the small boats, surrounded by acres of mud, nestle
at the base of huge black pilings.
Dee Bridge (1924-6). The five span bow-truss concrete bridge
which crosses the Dee at Kirkcudbright is over 150 yards
long, and is a favourite point of vantage to see the charming
views in all directions.
