Are you interested in your property being used as a film
or television location? Then read on …
Production companies are always looking
for properties for filming.
These could range from mansions and castles to council
flats on run-down estates. For professional filming you
as a property owner will be paid a fee by the production
company. The filming could range from half a day filming
exteriors, or might stretch to several weeks where they
completely take over your home.
The South West Scotland Screen Commission
is a free service: we do not charge property owners,
and does not collect a percentage of the location fee,
unlike commercial film location services.
Your details and photographs of your property are kept
in the office, and shown only to bona fide production companies.
We will check that all enquiries are genuine, and we aim
to make sure that companies filming in the region are responsible,
considerate and trustworthy.
Your location fee is supposed
to cover the inconvenience that filming causes, and you should
get your property back in exactly the same state as you left
it.
You as a location owner are entitled to see their insurance
documents and you should be kept fully informed about the
schedule and what they intend to film in your property.
The ultimate decision about the use
of your property is left entirely up to you.
We do get enquiries from productions who have little or
no money for location fees – these include student
film-makers and documentary film-makers: we try to help
everyone who is looking for locations here in this region,
but you are perfectly entitled to turn down any requests.
