BY AIR

Dumfries and Galloway is about two hours drive time from Prestwick Airport (near Ayr), Edinburgh and Glasgow City Airports, and Newcastle Airport.

BY RAIL

If you are arriving from England the West Coast line (heading for Glasgow) goes via Dumfries. You can also get the train to Carlisle, and take a local train to Dumfries. Trains from Glasgow via Dumfries will also stop at Sanquhar, Kirkconnel, Annan, and Gretna Green. Trains from Edinburgh go to Lockerbie. Stranraer trains go via Prestwick and Ayr.

BY SEA

Ferries from Ireland go from Larne or Belfast to either Stranraer or Cairnryan. Stena Line operates between Belfast and Stranraer; P&O Irish Sea Ferries run between Larne and Cairnryan. In all, there are twenty crossings from Northern Ireland to Dumfries & Galloway every day.
