Help for Filmmakers

The region of Dumfries and Galloway has the reputation of being one of the ‘film-friendliest’ in Scotland and the South West Scotland Screen Commission, part of Dumfries and Galloway Council, offers you a completely free service:
  • Location Finding
We can help you find the locations that best suit what you are looking for. We can email you images, or you can visit the office to look at our photographs on file. We can also send you maps of the region.

  • Contacts
We can supply contacts for location owners, all Council departments, including our very helpful Roads department, the police and other emergency services, the Tourist Board, and useful local services.

We also have good contacts with National organisations: Historic Scotland, National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Forestry Commission.

  • Press Liaison
We promise to provide a completely confidential and discreet service. We can also deal with press enquiries on your behalf and are happy to send press releases on your behalf around the region (useful if you’re looking for extras or props).

In addition to the information on training, useful contacts and accommodation that you will find in this section - you may also find the Film Funding section useful.

If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.
