BY ROAD: Dumfries from the South

Driving up the M6, stay on the motorway as it becomes the A74 (M) at Carlisle. Turn off at Gretna at Junction 22, and take the A75 east to Dumfries. This part of the journey takes about half-an-hour.

The most direct route to the office in Dumfries is to turn left at the third roundabout (where the A75 meets the A701 for Edinburgh). You pass Bannatyne’s Health Club on your left and then reach a mini-roundabout where you can see a sign for Gracefield Arts Centre: take the right-hand fork and follow the road. Gracefield is signposted on the left hand side, past the left hand bend in the road.

There is plenty of parking space in the car-park, and the Screen Commission office is situated on the first floor of the old sandstone building.

BY ROAD: Dumfries from Glasgow

Exit at J15 and take the A701 where you will eventually end up at the roundabout mentioned above, where the A75 meets the A701. Take the second exit at the roundabout and then follow the same directions.

For a slower, more scenic route you can also exit the M74 at J14 and go along the A702 to Thornhill and go down the A76 to Dumfries. You will need to turn left onto the A75 when you reach the outskirts of Dumfries, and then take the third exit at the A75/A701 roundabout.

You can also exit at Lockerbie at J17 and take the A709, via Lochmaben to Dumfries. Take the third exit onto the A75 (heading east to Stranraer) when you reach the roundabout on the outskirts of Dumfries, and then turn left at the next roundabout (where the A75 meets the A701 for Edinburgh). Then follow the directions above.

BY ROAD: Dumfries from Edinburgh

You can take a number of different A roads – the A702, the A701, or the A708, but the trip might be quicker on the M8/ M74 via Glasgow. Please note that signs out of Edinburgh will be for ‘Carlisle and the South’.

BY RAIL

The Screen Commission office is close to Dumfries Station: exit the station on the town centre side where you will see a large hotel called ‘The Station Hotel’ directly ahead of you. Turn right onto Lover’s Walk, and turn right again at the traffic lights on Edinburgh Road.

Gracefield Arts Centre is about one hundred yards up the road, and the Screen Commission office is on the first floor of the old sandstone building.
